In a landmark authorized motion, former Amazon engineer Shakeeb Ahmed was sentenced to 3 years in jail for orchestrating hacks on two DeFi cryptocurrency exchanges, leading to over $12 million theft.

Ahmed engaged in subtle laundering strategies to obscure the origins of the stolen funds. These included swapping tokens throughout blockchains, changing belongings into the untraceable crypto Monero, and using abroad exchanges and cryptocurrency mixers.

Along with jail time, the court docket has ordered Ahmed to forfeit round $12.3 million in stolen belongings. He should additionally pay restitution exceeding $5 million to the affected exchanges. He may also bear three years of supervised launch post-incarceration.
