Rochester Police Captain Casey Moilanen stated the 71-year-old girl reported the rip-off on Tuesday. She stated the scammer was posing as an Amazon worker and contacted her by telephone on March 30 regarding her checking account.
Moilanen stated the scammer gave the girl an Amazon worker ID quantity and informed the sufferer her checking account was being hacked by somebody in Europe and that she should withdraw her funds. She was instructed to make use of her funds to purchase bitcoin and relay the data to the caller.
The lady informed police she complied with the calls for and withdrew $15,000 from her account twice. She then purchased $30,000 in bitcoin and shared the data with the scammer.
